Happy Fourth!

This summer has been one of the hottest on record, and July 4th happened to fall in one of the hottest weeks of the summer.  It also fell on a Wednesday, which is terrible since you only get the actual day off and not a long weekend.  But we still made the best of it.  The night of the 3rd we drove out to the Naperville Rib Fest to watch the fireworks.  It was a good display with some rockin' patriotic music.  Finn loved it, Sabine was frightened and Lourdes just rolled around on our blanket jamming along to the tunes.  The morning of the Fourth, we got up and took the kids on a bike ride to Starbucks.  Our plan was to then proceed to the park, but after getting to Starbucks we realized it was WAY too hot to spend our day outside.  So we headed home and drove to the Planetarium.  When we got there it was 102 degrees and all these people had set up on the nearby beach with grills and drinks to watch the fireworks, which wouldn't even start for another 10 hours.  I don't know how they stood it because just getting from the car to the museum was too much for me.  But once we were inside in the air conditioning we had a great time.  Finn loves that place because he can play with rockets and dress up like an astronaut (two of his favorite things).  The girls are happy anywhere they can run around and act crazy.  So our Fourth turned out great despite the sweltering heat.

What adorable little Patriots we have!  Thanks Great Aunt Rita for the cute outfits!

All three hard at work fixing the rocket.

Slide break.

Sabine absolutely loves to build with blocks.  She and Finn made some great towers.
