Hatteras 2015

Another fabulous summer vacation with the Canos.  This is the look of three children who have just spent over 17 hours driving the last two days and finally arrive at a beach!

First night, you hit the waves with your clothes still on.

Love this picture of Sabine.  Hatteras is our happy place.

First full day at the beach and Finn comes down with strep....but with the help of antibiotics, he's able to enjoy himself again soon enough.

Although Finn is temporarily sidelined, that's not going to stop the rest of the kids from enjoying some serious sand fun.

Sun's out, guns out

Bocce and beer on the beach.  This is the life.

After our first full day, ice cream and cornhole in our pjs.

Have to break out monkey kite at least once per vacation.

Sabine is serious about her sand castles.

Decided to start the next day with a trip to the Hatteras lighthouse.  Sabine just missed the height cut off again, so Finn and Lourdes climbed the 200+ stairs to the top of the tower.

Afterwards, the climbing group got sworn in as deputy rangers.

That evening we signed up to go crabbing.  This kids loved this activity.  You basically throw fish meat into the water on a string, wait for the crabs to bite and try to pull them up before they jump off.  Then the volunteers will help you identify what type you caught.  Finn caught a big one.  The next morning we signed up for a group kayak trip around the sound with this same group.  I didn't get any pictures because I was paddling for Finn and I (he was more into enjoying the view), but it was a blast.  Would definitely sign up again.

The group checking the lines.

The Canos take their Monopoly seriously.

We've been to Hatteras many times, but this is the first year we decided to have a beach bonfire.  It was my favorite night of the whole vacation.  We made smores.  The kids tried to catch sand crabs.  And we had a dance party.  Meghan Trainer and Taylor Swift were big hits.  At one point, Lourdes fell into my arms and said "the world is beautiful."  Yes, it is Lu.  Especially on vacation.

Beautiful, happy girls

Finn was showing off a lot of moves at the dance party.  He can whip and nae nae with the best of them.

The next morning, we took our annual trek over to Ocracoke.  This was the outfit Lu picked out for the ferry ride over.

Selfie on the ferry boat.

Our trip to Ocracoke is always the same.  We stop at Howard's Pub for lunch.

Then we go to the Pirate museum so the kids can spend their allowance on pirate tchotchke.

And then we hit the beach for a dip.  It's a shallow beach so the kids have a blast in the waves.

Sadness is the last day of vacation.  But the kids tried their best to go out with a bang.

Ice cream helps numb the pain.

Until next year.....

On our way home, we stopped at Pullen Park in Raleigh, NC to let the kids run out some energy.  The paddle boats were a blast.
