July 4th weekend in Chicago

We normally spend July 4th in Ohio, but since we were just there the weekend before for camping we decided to stay home for the long weekend.  It turned out to be such a great time!

July 3 we took the girls to their first Cubbies game.  The kids were big fans of the pizza, pretzels and peanuts...much more so than the game itself.

The game wasn't quite exciting enough to interfere with Sabine's daily nap.  But she had a good reason to be tired.  We had walked the 2 miles to Wrigley Field and then hit a park right before game time.  And it was good she rested too because we then walked the 2 miles back home before treating ourselves to some Mexican food on a patio.

July 4th was a blast.  In the morning, we met up with the girls' friend William and his mom for a play date at a park.  Then we went up to Andersonville for a cookout.  The Canos were in town and their former neighbor hosted a get together.  The food was great and after the sun set we went up on the roof of their building to watch the fireworks displays all around the city.  It was such a city living moment and absolutely reaffirmed why we live here.

And we closed out the weekend by taking in The Little Mermaid at the Chicago Shakespeare Theater.  Great show.  And Ursula was the highlight.
